He holds a degree in Physical Culture and Sports. From 1980 to 1985, he was a member of the Youth National Team and participated in various international events in the 420 class in former East Germany. From 1985 to 1991 and in 1993, he joined the National Team in the 470 and Snipe classes, participating in several regional events, two Central American and Caribbean Games, and two Pan American Games, achieving his best result in winning first place at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1986. He has been a coach for the Cuban National Team from 1995 to 2001 and for the Dominican Republic National Team from 2005 to 2008.
